Acropolis of Pergamum |
Acropolis of Pergamum, with the Hellenistic theatre (ca. 225–200 BC) carved vertically out of the side of the mountain with a capacity of ca. 10,000 citizens. Visible on the top are the pillars of the Temple of Trajan (2nd cent. AD), which after Alexandria, was next to the second largest library (200,000 volumes) in the world.
